12/03 – “Busier than a Goat with Three Peckers”

Pardon the quote, but when I watch Firebirds, I often get the urge to utilize some of the finer lines from the movie. While eating our turkey sandwiches for lunch, Jeremy and I hooked up the netbook and watched the first half of Firebirds. When we were kids, we watched this movie over and over again, and it was super cool to watch it again with Jeremy. The sandwiches were very good as well. We also munched on a few of the apricots that we had brought along from Jeremy’s tree in Bethel.

More exciting, however, was the trip to the Post Office to mail home two huge boxes filled with Jeremy’s stuff. The weight limit for shipped packages at the cheaper rate is 20 kg, and we hit that mark with both packages! It took some finagling, however, in the post office. After we met the weight requirements, we used a ton of packing tape to ensure that the boxes that Jeremy had on hand would not fall apart. It was also fun trying to past the 91 Rand worth of 1 Rand stamps onto the box. It seems that it would have been a good deal more efficient to just have printed out a stamp worth that much (like the good ‘ol US of A). We joked that boxes were supposed to arrive to Lesotho in that condition, not be sent home, and we wondered just what they would look like when they did make it home. I guess we will have to wait for about 2 months to find out. It will be interesting to see what gets home first. Will we arrive before the packages? Ha, wait and see. On the way back for lunch, we stopped to check out The Regal restaurant, a nice Indian Restaurant that we hope to eat at tomorrow for dinner.

I have tried to do more on the internet here, but it is terrible slow, when it works at all. In a brief moment of speed, I was able to find some cheap/free guided tours in Rome that had both Jeremy and I very excited.

That night, we ate dinner at Rendezvous, or Lancers, as it is more commonly known. My dinner was the quintessential Peri Peri Chicken with chips. It was pretty good. Jeremy ordered a pasta dish that was quite bland in comparison. Right before bed, we discovered a stash of Magnums in the freezer. We found out that they belonged to Violeta and also found out that we could purchase them. What are these? Basically, they are ice cream bars, but they are the ice cream of Africa! Needless to say, when we sampled them a few days later, they were nothing to write home about. (Ha! Yet here I am writing home about them!).
