Trip Up The Amalfi Coast

Today, Jeremy and I went for a trip on the Amalfi Coast. This section of Italy is famous for a series of towns that are built on cliffs along the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. We caught the Circum-Vesuvia train to Sorrento, and then purchased day passes for the SITA buses that would take us through the different towns.

Sorrento would have been an excellent place to spend more time in. Orange trees and lemon trees lined the streets!

Our first stop was in Positano, one of the largest of the towns. Here is a picture of the town.

You can see how the houses are built on terraces and how the trees and gardens also ride the terraces. Perhaps one of the craziest things about the Amalfi Coast is the road that winds through the towns. You could hardly call it a 2 lane road, and the bus had to constantly honk as it wound around incredibly tight corners. There were many instances where the bus had to stop and cars had to slowly back out or pull around the bus. Sadly, the tight corners and the bus led to a bit of nausea for Jeremy and myself. It was nothing like our Mozambique adventure, but it wasn't the best experience. This was a true shame, because the views over the sides of the cliffs were incredible.

We had a cappuccino and a latte machiatto in a nice little coffee and pastry shop in the first town. The Naplolese like sweet things.

Here we are at the bottom of the hill in Pasitano. By this time, it had started to rain, but it wasn't hard enough that it hampered our fun (yet).

The next stop was Amalfi, where we purchased Gelattos and wondered around for about 30 minutes in the rain. We didn't have much time before the bus would leave for Salerno, our final stop, and the rain wasn't that much fun.

In Salerno, we caught a train back to Naples. We ate dinner at Giulianos (another pizza place). It was another example of brilliant Naples pizza.

AND NOW, IT'S TIME FOR SOME BLASTS FROM THE PAST!!!!!!!

  1. HOLY CRAP, BRAD ON A CAMEL! Looks like you're having so much fun. It's a delight reading about the experiences I'm never going to get to have. Plus, the last two or three weeks of this blog have made me hungry for pizza, bread, and gelato, and that is a great thing too.
