Arrival in Milan

We arrived in Milan today. I had hoped that upon checking out of our hostel in Padua that my headlamp would appear, but it didn't. To make up for this letdown, we purchased a cannoli two pack at the grocery store and some awesome raisin bread.

I also hoped that for our last major train journey in Italy that we would get everything right. We did buy the right tickets. We also bought the regional tickets, which are much less expensive. I even tried to validate the tickets. However, it seems that the machine did not have enough ink in it and it didn't stamp the date on the ticket. The conductor had a bit of a chat with us about this, but it wasn't much of a problem, nor was it the first chat that we have had.

We watched more Battlestar Galactica on the train ride and also saw the latest Office Episode with the prior episode montage. We arrived in Milan at around 2:30. We checked into our hostel and then took a walk to the Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

On the way to the Duomo, we passed a Gelatteria with good looking Gelato. We weren't really hungry, but we also knew that this could easily be the last chance we would have to get gelato in Italy. Thus, we nutted and purchased some great Italian Ice Cream.

We visited the Duomo next. I didn't think that I could be fascinated by huge and beautiful churches any longer, but this one did it again!

We also visited the Galeria which contains the world's only 7 star hotel. It also has a mosaic with a bull in the center of the gallery. The story is this. The designer of the galleria plummeted to his death weeks before the gallery was finished. To avoid this death, visitors must grind their heels into the rocky mountain oysters of the bull.

After kicking a bull in the nuts, we headed back home. We saw a shop earlier in the day that sold pasta and ragu. We purchased gnocchi, ragu, bread (a wonderful dark bread), wine, and cheese. Our original plan was to visit a gamer on this night, but that fell through. Our second plan was just as much fun. With the exception of dinner with Emanuele, Paolo, and Massimiliano, our home made dinners have been some of the best food we have eaten in Italy.

Tomorrow, we will meet Angelo and visit the city with him! It will be great fun.

And, in a few days we will be home. Take that as you will. The only thing that I know for sure is that there will be gaming. Yes sir, there will be gaming.
