I considered talking about last night's dinner in the post that I will write about today's visit to Venice, but it was simply too incredible to tack onto another topic.
Last night, Emanuele and his wife Barbara invited Jeremy and me over for dinner and gaming. Barbara volunteered to cook dinner, and it was great! She cooked so much food and it was so delicious. Emanuele said that he would send me a menu of all of the different foods, but until that point, I will simply get the names wrong and write from memory.
When we arrived, Barbara had set out a plate of typical Venetian appetizers. There was salami, speck, procutto crude, and 3 different types of cheeses. There was also a bowl of some of the best olives we have had on this trip. She also set out a plate of a fried ball with olives and meat inside.
The first course was lasagna. Of course, we have had lasagna in the US, but this was just better than any that I have had before. The meat sauce was rich and the noodles were cooked perfectly. Garfield would have been pleased!
The next course consisted of a pork sausage, radicchio, potatoes, lentil beans, and fried vegetables with fish on top of them. We were also able to try a quiche that had the beautiful spiraling broccoli that we have only ever seen in Italy.
For dessert, we were treated to both Chocolate and Cream Frittelles and another type of sweet treat that is typically served during Carnival in Venice. We also sampled some gelatto later in the evening. Barbara also made me a cappucino that bested the rest in Italy.
This was all served with some bread and some great sparkling wine brought by Niccola, a friend of Emanuele.
After dinner, we played Fauna, Six, and Das Magische Labyrinth.
Sadly, I didn't take any pictures of the dinner. And these words do not really do it justice. All of my readers will have to wait until I return so that I can gush about this perfect Italian feast.
Thank you Barbara for cooking such a wonderful meal for us!
