We woke up early in the morning and took the train to the airport. We caught our flight just fine and arrived in Palermo right on schedule. Sadly, Jeremy's butter knife fell victim to airport regulations. BUT, we had the Spoon, Knife, Fork combination that Uncle Jon sent us, so we were prepared for anything.
At the airport, we took the train to the central station in Palermo and then tried to figure out how to get to Catania. We knew that we had two options: the bus or the train. We choose the train, and we chose wrong. To make matters worse, the person running the ticket counter sold us the wrong ticket (not the one I had asked for) and a 3 hour trip turned into a 5 hour trip! Happily, trains in Italy are not as uncomfortable as mini buses in Africa.
We arrived in Catania around 8 pm went in search of our hostel and dinner. We found dinner on the way to the hostel. We at at the Trattoria La Paglia. What sealed the deal for us was when the cook, a kindly older woman, smiled at us. She has the sweetest smile. I thought that my grandmother had moved to Catania! That night we feasted on seafood salad (octopus, squid, shrimp, mussels, and parsley), pasta marinara, pasta with clams, and swordfish.
After getting lost on the way to the hostel, we finally found our beds and crashed after a long and tiring day.
