Trip to Washington DC

I spent Friday night and Saturday in Washington DC. Friday, my parents and I left to head up and meet friend of the family Misa and we pretty much got there in time to eat at this really nice Ethiopian restaurant: Etetes Ethiopian Cuisine.

Saturday, we got up, at a quick breakfast and then attempted to efficiently visit both the Jefferson and Lincoln Monuments. Of course, D.C. and Rolling Thunder foiled this attempt. It turns out that every Memorial Day weekend every motorcyclist in the country cruises into town to pay their respects to our fallen soldiers and soldiers missing in action. I won't find any fault in this, as it is brilliant that groups of people show they care. But dang, it sure shuts down huge chunks of the city! And, though we left before the rally really started, I was told that it becomes quite loud.

We did manage to make it to the two monuments, but it took forever and we didn't make it to the American Indian museum until lunch time. The museum was nice, especially the top floor and a special exhibit featuring the integration of Native American art and comic book/newspaper comic style art.

Next was the Air and Space museum for about an hour and then back to the parking garage and home. We stopped at a Sushi Restaurant (Edo Sushi) on the way home that I knew about from GCOM conventions. The restaurant was great and received both of my parents and Misa's seal of approval.

This leaves Sunday and Monday for some gaming. I hope to get together with Mike, Matt, and/or Misa (the three Ms) and get some good gaming in. So stay tuned...

Oh, some thoughts. I still have it in my head to setup some Dedicated Designer Conventions; one for Martin Wallace and another for Emanuele Ornella. I am willing to put up people in my house depending on the expected turnout. I would also consider working with a local hotel, etc. to try to setup larger gaming spaces. But, I have no idea what interest would be. These would be, to a degree, by invite only, but I would consider "invitations" a loose turn. Send me an e-mail/post to this blog and you are likely to be invited!
