Arrival in Essen

So, yesterday, my Mom took off of work so that she could help me with my final preparations. My Dad came home around lunchtime and we went to Okinis before driving to BWI. Here we are right before I walked into the security checkpoint. The flight to LHR (London Heathrow) took about 7 hours and it was another 3 hour wait for my plane to Dusseldorf. I tried to watch a movie during the flight to LHR, and I accomplished about three-fourths of the new Dan Brown movie, Angels and Demons. But, the movie was not that good, Tom Hanks is old, and I fell asleep before the end.

There was a good pasta dinner on the plane, and they also served a small in-flight breakfast. But by the time lunch rolled around in London, I was starving. And who better to help me out than Gordon Ramsey! What I did not know, was that the British Pound rocks the US Dollar. I should have....but I didn't. Either way, what turned out to be a grilled cheese sandwich with ham was good, but not $23 dollars good.

I arrived in Dusseldorf and ultimately caught the train to Essen. It was tough and awkward. And I swear that there were some hooligans laughing at me. My suitcases were huge, and I had no idea where I was going. Right train, but which stop? I did get some help, and it turns out that the help was accurate. Thanks! I got off and then had to navigate my ways to the street. Then I made the wrong turn onto the main street and walked for a bit before realizing the errors of my ways. Turned around, walked some more, and ultimately made it to the apartment. And this place is nice!

Oh, and by the way, Mom, check this out:
I told you that they celebrate Halloween in Germany!

Once at the apartment, I met up with Scott and Tom and we went out for dinner. I had curry wurst. I will admit that I was a bit disappointed. The fries were excellent though. And the whole meal only coast about $7!
Okay, that's it. I am going to get ready for bed now. It's 9:19, and my goal is to stay up until 10. I need to be awake and ready to leave for the Messe tomorrow by 8 with Ted.

  1. Oh, poor guy! At least your curry wurst price sort of countered the grilled ham and cheese price.

  2. It was a good ham and cheese though! And, I simply could not pass up the chance to eat at a Gordon Ramsey establishment! However, the service was SLOW!! Could it be....a....Kitchen Disaster?
