Today was not quite as exciting as yesterday. I woke up a bit earlier than Jeremy and took care of my morning exercises. When Jeremy woke up, we ate some breakfast and then headed over to the Peace Corps Headquarters to start on his paperwork. A number of other volunteers are also going through the “COS” (Completion of Service) routine and the paperwork is demanding. The computer lab is already pretty small, and today it was simply packed. The bandwidth was also incredibly limited and sporadic, so doing any real Internet work was nearly impossible. With that said, I was able to post an update, and I hope to get some more up in the next couple of days.
Lunch with Keketso was fantastic. I can see why he was one of Jeremy’s friends. He is incredibly nice and polite and he will do well at University, where he is studying to be a social worker. While Jeremy and Keketso ordered Jeremy’s and my food at Temptations, I waited in the long line to pickup Keketso’s chicken at the KFC. I also ordered a piece for Jeremy and myself to share, just to see what all the fuss is about. I still don’t know. Sadly, the service at Temptations was not what it was the other day. It was very slow and the burger was basically raw when first ordered. I had to send it back. But, when it returned, about 10 minutes later, it was perfect and delicious.
After chilling outside of the headquarters for a bit, waiting for Jeremy, we headed to the new Pick ‘n Pay grocery store that just opened up. Compared to Bethel, this store is awesome. It’s actually not bad compared to my standards at home. They have a nice bakery and butchery. Jeremy and I purchased hot dog buns, some steak, onion, and pepper to make cheese steaks.
The grocery store was actually built into a much larger shopping complex. Jeremy said that the place was only starting construction when he last saw it, and he was amazed at it now. It is really something, compared to the rest of the city.
The other interesting news is this stupid and constant battle with the computer viruses that have taken over most of Jeremy’s storage devices. They were even in his digital camera flash drives! Well, I think that we have taken care of most of the problem, but I am reminded of the AIDS epidemic here. Sorry to jest about such a serious topic, but I just don’t want him plugging those infected devices into my netbook. Luckily, we were able to transfer all of his important files and pictures onto one of his larger flash drives and we freed up room on his digital camera to take care of pictures for the rest of the trip.
I really have no idea what tomorrow will bring. I need to take it a bit easier, since there really are no super exciting adventures to go on. I will just take my book, lean back, and read while Jeremy rushes to take care of the checklist of items that must be completed.
