Anyhow, it rained today. HA! Sounding a bit like a broken record? Well too bad. Nature finally caught up with us and let loose the rain and the wind on both of us as we walked the 40 minutes from our hostel to the hotel that we are spending our last night in. We hung out in the hostel until around 11 so that we could dodge the weather and complete our check-in for the plane, but then it was time to go.
Happily, the rain wasn't that bad and we arrived at the hotel pretty dry. More importantly, the games were fine! After dropping off our luggage, we decided go in search of pastries and the modern art museum (the K20).
By the time we found anything to eat, it was lunch time. But MAN did we find a good place. On the walk from the hotel, I told Jeremy how surprised I was that we hadn't found any small restaurants serving wurstel and schnitzel.
Someone must have heard us, because right ahead was a glorious restaurant/snack stand that had great prices and great food.
For lunch, Jeremy and I both ordered the curry wurst. This was so superior to the curry wurst I had in Essen. This was truly the "best of the wurst." This spicy hot treat was perfect for a cold and wet day.
After dining on this plate of meat and fried potatoes, we were ready to walk through the historic center of Dusseldorf. We stopped in a department store and I drooled at the great collection of games that they had in stock.
Then we found an Irish Pub that served Cider! And, the bartender said "cheers mate." He made my day, and the cider was great. Thanks bartender. (Jeremy is throwing in random phrases here and there. It a bit odd, but it does spice up the blog.)
We made it to the K20, but they only had half of the museum open. The largest part was a collection of glass nouveau. I could show the glass sculptures, but it may be more interesting to see some of the random human modern art that they scattered through the gallery.
This was my favorite work. It is entitled the "Colbert Shuffle."
This was Jeremy's favorite sculpture. It is called "Sitting With Ones Head on Backwards." If you look closely, you can see glasses on this exhibit's head.
This is another silly picture. This artist was trying to capture the essence of the magnifying glass as it relates to the dichotomous nature of the exploration for the quintessential "cheers, mate."
Here is some real modern art. Does it make any more sense than the other pictures? (Not to me).
We left the modern art museum and ate a sweet swirly thingy at a cafe where we also purchased a cherry treat and a pretzel for our dessert.
After chilling out at the hotel for about an hour, we headed back to our new favorite German restaurant for:
BRATWURST!
Honestly, they must have shipped the kind Italian woman from Catania to cook up this treat for is. The woman behind the counter was just as wonderful to talk to.
Tomorrow we come home. See all of my American buddies soon!
Be safe and welcome home!
